Karachi Court Sends Driver to 14-Day Judicial Remand Over Deadly Karsaz Road Accident

A Karachi city court on Wednesday remanded Natasha Danish, the driver involved in the fatal Karsaz Road accident, to jail for 14 days. The tragic incident occurred on Monday evening when a speeding Toyota Land Cruiser driven by Natasha struck three motorcycles and another car before overturning, leading to the deaths of 60-year-old Imran Arif and his 22-year-old daughter Amna. Three other individuals sustained injuries in the collision.

The driver was arrested and initially booked for manslaughter. However, her court appearance was delayed due to her psychiatric treatment at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). Despite her counsel’s argument that the charges were bailable, the court sided with the prosecution, emphasizing the non-bailable nature of the charges under Section 322 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The complainant, Imtiaz Arif, whose brother and niece died in the accident, was present during the proceedings along with his legal counsel. One of the injured, whose vehicle was also damaged, attended the hearing, seeking justice.

As the case unfolds, the court has instructed the police to submit a charge sheet at the next hearing. This tragic incident has reignited conversations about road safety and the enforcement of traffic laws in Karachi.
