KP CM Ali Amin Gandapur Advocates Prison Reform, Highlights Success in Revenue Increase

Peshawar — In a recent address, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur highlighted the importance of reforming the prison system, emphasizing that prison is not just a place for punishment but a place for reform. Drawing from his own experiences, Gandapur reflected on his time in jail, describing it as a place that can lead to transformation if managed correctly.

The Chief Minister discussed how prison monitoring has evolved, noting that now prisons in KP can be monitored from a centralized location, which will improve the overall performance of the system. He emphasized that not all prisoners are hardened criminals; many are in jail due to personal conflicts or property matters, underlining the importance of viewing the prison system as one that focuses on rehabilitation rather than mere punishment.

In his speech, Gandapur explained that a better prison environment could lead to faster reform for prisoners. He shared that with recent reforms, video calls can now be made from jails, and the budget for food in prisons has been doubled, demonstrating the provincial government's commitment to improving the living conditions of prisoners.

On the topic of governance and leadership, Gandapur also shared insights into his leadership journey, stating that his tolerance for criticism has grown over time. Reflecting on his initial struggles with criticism, he now advocates for research and thoughtful opinions before forming judgments about others. "A person who speaks after careful thought is someone whose words can be trusted," said Gandapur.

Further, he spoke about the economic progress under his leadership, stating that KP's revenue has increased by 49 percent under his government. He expressed hope that other provinces would follow suit and increase their revenues, ensuring financial independence for the province. He added, "If we work beyond our responsibilities, everything will be fine."
