KP Government Decides to Withdraw Action in Aid of Civil Power Act

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to withdraw the Action in Aid of Civil Power Act, Law Minister Aftab Alam told Geo News on Thursday.

According to the minister, the decision to repeal the law aligns with recommendations made during the Aman Jirga and follows judicial guidance. Alam noted that the Peshawar High Court had previously issued a decision concerning the law, while the provincial and federal governments had temporarily stayed the ruling through the Supreme Court. The current provincial government has now chosen to withdraw its stay.

“The federal government should also respect the decision of the province. Why was this law passed? Only the government members of that time can explain,” Alam added.

The withdrawal signals a shift in KP’s governance approach and is expected to have implications for civil power enforcement and provincial-federal coordination.
