KP Government Forms Special Sub-Committee to Monitor Development and Security Operations

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government on Tuesday decided to establish a special sub-committee to monitor development projects and review security operations in certain districts, following a high-level meeting at the Corps Headquarters in Peshawar.

The meeting was attended by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, the national security adviser, Peshawar corps commander, and senior civil and military officials. The session began with a tribute to civilians and security personnel martyred in terrorist attacks.

Among key decisions, the meeting confirmed that Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches scheduled this year would be held in Peshawar and that a provincial governance model would be implemented in phases in Malakand Division, particularly in Khyber, Orakzai, and Kurram districts.

The special sub-committee, led by CM Afridi, will hold monthly meetings and include elected representatives, the Peshawar corps commander, KP chief secretary, inspector general, provincial officials, and federal representatives. The panel will also focus on creating alternative employment opportunities, ensuring steady income for locals, and addressing issues faced by temporarily displaced persons.

Officials emphasized the need for effective coordination between the federal and provincial governments to combat terrorism, tackle illegal SIM cards, explosive materials, and extortion, and profile non-custom paid vehicles.

KP Law Minister Aftab Alam stated that responsibilities in Malakand Division will be handed over from the army to law enforcement agencies, including the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and police, highlighting this as a milestone in restoring peace and trust in civil institutions.

KP Finance Adviser Muzzammil Aslam said the meeting also addressed economic challenges, including reduced federal funding and disrupted trade with Afghanistan, with assurances of alternative arrangements and financial relief for affected communities.

The decisions aim to strengthen governance, security, and economic stability in KP while restoring civilian oversight in previously conflict-affected areas.
