KP Governor Condemns CM Sohail Afridi’s Remarks Against Security Forces

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Friday strongly condemned remarks made by Chief Minister Sohail Afridi that, according to him, “disparaged the security forces and undermined counter-terrorism operations” in the province.

While speaking to reporters outside Adiala Jail a day earlier, CM Afridi had accused security forces in KP of desecrating mosques during operations, alleging that they “brought dogs into mosques and tied them down there.”

“When we would go and tell them that they are violating the sanctity of the mosque, they would tell us ‘you and these dogs are no different’,” the CM said. “Despite this, we still support them … but do they know the pain of my people?”

Governor Kundi responded sharply, posting a video of the CM’s remarks on X and stating that such rhetoric “undermines the honour and sacrifice of our armed forces.”

“The brave sons of our soil lay down their lives to protect our province — questioning their intent in sensational terms only damages morale and public safety,” Kundi wrote.

The governor defended ongoing intelligence-based counter-terrorism operations, saying they were essential to protect citizens and ensure peace across KP.

“Political debate must not cross into actions or words that weaken our security institutions,” Kundi said, urging the CM to “exercise restraint and place the safety and unity of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa above partisan posturing.”

Kundi reiterated that all political forces must stand united with the armed forces to secure peace in KP, where terrorist attacks have surged in recent months — particularly in KP and Balochistan, targeting police, law enforcement personnel, and security forces.

“Ultimately, it is the people who will deliver accountability in the coming elections,” Kundi concluded.

Meanwhile, the Khyber Union of Journalists (KUJ) also expressed deep concern and regret over the CM’s remarks, calling them “irresponsible and inflammatory.”

KUJ President Kashifuddin Syed said dragging mosques and madrassas into political controversies was “condemnable.”

“The sanctity of places of worship, respect for worshippers, and honouring the sacrifices of martyrs are obligatory on all of us,” Syed said. “Such statements cause chaos in society, hurt religious sentiments, and increase suspicion against state institutions.”

The KUJ emphasised that the armed forces’ role in combating terrorism was vital and warned that making their sacrifices controversial would “strengthen the enemy’s narrative.”

“The chief minister should show responsibility and prudence in choosing words, avoid politicising religious places, and issue statements keeping in mind national unity,” the KUJ statement concluded.
