A devastating fire incident in Manzoor Colony has been confirmed as a case of self-immolation, with police revealing that the 67-year-old house owner, Zafar Laiq, set himself ablaze due to severe financial stress. The fire resulted in his death and left his 17-year-old stepson injured.

Incident Details

According to SHO Baloch Colony Mazhar Kangu, the fire broke out in a house near Eidgah Chowk in Manzoor Colony. Upon investigation, police determined that Zafar Laiq, frustrated by his deteriorating financial situation, doused himself in chemicals and set himself on fire inside his room.

His stepson, Azam, attempted to save him but sustained burn injuries in the process.

Financial Hardship Led to Tragic Decision

Police reports and family statements indicate that Zafar Laiq was struggling financially, relying on small investments to sustain his household. However, in recent months, his situation had worsened:

  • He had not paid rent for 10 months.
  • An electricity bill of Rs 175,000 further added to his stress.
  • The family was struggling to afford daily rations.

On the day of the incident, an argument broke out when Zafar’s wife asked him to bring rice for cooking. Following the heated exchange, Zafar locked himself in a room. Shortly after, smoke and flames emerged from the room. When the door was forced open, Zafar was already severely burned.

Authorities have handed over the body to the family while further investigations are underway to confirm the circumstances surrounding the incident.
