Married Woman Killed in Suspected Honour Killing in Karachi’s Quaidabad

Karachi: A 40-year-old married woman was shot dead in a suspected case of honour killing in the Gulshan-i-Buner area of Quaidabad, police reported on Thursday.

The victim, identified as Razia Sanaullah, was killed inside a residence. According to Malir Superintendent of Police (SP) Saeed Rind, initial investigations point to the involvement of close relatives in the murder.

“Police have uncovered clues suggesting that the incident might be linked to so-called honour,” SP Rind told Dawn.com. He further revealed that some of Razia's relatives expressed their disapproval of her actions to the extent that they did not attend her funeral prayers, which were instead attended by neighbors.

The body has been sent to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for necessary legal formalities, and an investigation is ongoing to uncover the full details of the crime.

This incident is not isolated. Karachi has witnessed multiple cases of violence against women under the guise of “honour” this year:

  • Last month, a woman was stabbed to death by her husband in a similar case on the city’s outskirts.
  • In September, a newlywed couple was killed, and a relative injured over so-called honour in Orangi Town.
  • In July, a young woman was axed to death by her maternal grandfather in Marfani Goth within the Awami Colony police station’s jurisdiction.

Honour-related violence remains a pressing issue in Pakistan, where societal norms often perpetuate these crimes. Advocacy groups and authorities continue to push for stronger enforcement of laws to protect women and address the deeply rooted cultural stigma surrounding honour.
