Maulana Fazlur Rehman Meets Opposition Leaders to Discuss Political Situation and Constitutional Supremacy

IslamabadJamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman met with a group of prominent opposition leaders including Omar Ayub Khan, Asad Qaiser, Salman Akram Raja, Sahibzada Hamid Raza, Shahram Khan Turki, and Akhundzada Hussain on Wednesday. The meeting centered around the current political situation in the country and ways to strengthen the supremacy of the Constitution.

After the discussions, Omar Ayub Khan and Senator Kamran Murtaza from JUI, along with PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, spoke to the media, highlighting key concerns raised during the meeting.

Omar Ayub Khan stated that they conveyed to Maulana Fazlur Rehman the opposition's frustrations with the government's approach to the parliamentary committee negotiations. "The government is not serious about the talks," Khan said, adding that the establishment of a judicial commission must be implemented for transparency and accountability.

The opposition leaders emphasized that all democratic parties must unite in defense of the Constitution, which they believe is under threat. "If PECA becomes law, the right to protest will also be taken away," the leaders warned, expressing grave concern over the implications of this law for citizens' freedoms.

Senator Kamran Murtaza stated that the meeting focused on working together for the supremacy of the Constitution, and a joint effort to safeguard Pakistan's democratic principles. He confirmed that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Mahmood Khan Achakzai have also met and discussed similar concerns.

To address growing misunderstandings between political parties, a two-member committee has been formed, consisting of Kamran Murtaza and Asad Qaiser, to facilitate further dialogue and cooperation between parties.

The opposition remains committed to protecting Pakistan's Constitutional integrity and ensuring that democratic rights are upheld across the country. The formation of this committee marks a new chapter in the opposition's efforts to unite against what they see as an attack on the nation's fundamental laws and freedoms.
