Monsoon Rains Claim Nine More Lives in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as Destruction Mounts Nationwide

Pakistan’s relentless monsoon season continues to take a heavy toll, with nine more lives lost in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) in the past 24 hours. The latest casualties include five children in Balochistan and four people in KP, as torrential rains and flash floods wreak havoc across the country.

In Balochistan, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported that 39 people have died in rain-related incidents since July 1, with 19 of the victims being children. The province remains under a severe weather alert, with 22 districts expected to experience further rainfall. Rescue and relief operations are ongoing, though the situation remains dire as 11 districts have already been declared calamity-hit.

Among the tragic incidents reported on Monday, two brothers drowned in flash floods in Zhob District, while two children succumbed to injuries after being rescued from a dam in Khuzdar District. Another child drowned in Kech District, adding to the growing death toll.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, three people died when a bus was struck by a landslide in Upper Kohistan, while a minor was killed by lightning in Malakand District. The region has seen significant damage, with 96 deaths and 133 injuries reported since July 1 due to the ongoing monsoon rains. The Karakoram Highway, which had been blocked by landslides, was reopened today, allowing stranded passengers to continue their journeys.

Punjab and Sindh are also bracing for more rainfall, with weather alerts issued for various districts. In Lahore, heavy rains have already caused significant disruption, while in Sindh, the remnants of Cyclone Asna are expected to bring further downpours, particularly in Karachi and surrounding districts.

As the nation grapples with the devastation brought on by these monsoon rains, authorities are urging residents in affected areas to take precautions and stay informed of weather updates.
