MQM-London Suspected Target Killer and Robber Arrested in Joint Rangers and Karachi Police Operation

law enforcement agencies in Karachi arrested a suspected target killer and robber allegedly associated with the Altaf Hussain-led Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM-London) in a joint operation conducted by Rangers and Karachi police.

The suspect, identified as Mohammed Hamid alias Hamid Piya, was apprehended in the Eidgah area near the Civil Hospital during an intelligence-based operation. According to a spokesperson for Rangers, Hamid was believed to be involved in various criminal activities, including targeted killings on political and ethnic grounds, as well as leading a gang of robbers.

During the operation, law enforcement recovered a hand grenade from the suspect, further underscoring the severity of his criminal involvement.

Initial investigations revealed that Hamid had a history with MQM until 2009, following which he reportedly joined the MQM-London faction. He confessed to his involvement in targeted killings dating back to 1994, including the murder of a police officer. Additionally, he admitted to participating in bank robberies, looting jewelry shops, and engaging in extortion activities in the Lyari area.

Hamid also disclosed supplying weapons and ammunition to members of MQM-L and gang-war elements in Lyari, implicating himself in broader criminal activities.

Authorities disclosed that the suspect had been evading capture since 2014, residing in various cities including Sukkur, Peshawar, and Islamabad. Eleven first information reports had been filed against him in different police stations across Karachi.

Efforts are underway to apprehend Hamid's accomplices, with ongoing raids being conducted to dismantle criminal networks operating in the city.
