Multan Man Throws Acid on Wife and Children Amid Domestic Dispute

A woman and her two sons suffered severe burns after an alleged acid attack by the woman's husband during a domestic dispute in Multan’s Jalilabad district.

The incident occurred around 8:45pm on Sunday when the suspect, identified as Muhammad Majid, reportedly threw acid on his wife, Khadija Bano, and her two sons. According to the FIR, Majid fled the scene immediately after the attack.

The victim's brother, Farhan Ikhlaq, registered the FIR at the Jalilabad Police Station. He stated that he was informed about the incident by his grandson and rushed to the house with his brother. Upon arrival, they found Khadija in agony, her face and hair severely burned, with fumes filling the room.

A neighbor assisted in pouring water on the victims while emergency services were called. Rescue 1122 responders provided first aid before transferring the victims to Nishtar Hospital for further treatment.

Ikhlaq revealed that Majid often quarreled with Khadija and had expressed his desire to return to his first wife. "He wanted to divorce my sister, and that’s why he committed this atrocity," Ikhlaq stated in the FIR.

Rescue 1122 confirmed that the woman sustained burns to her face and head, while the children also suffered acid burns.

Acid Attacks in Pakistan: A Persistent Threat

Acid attacks remain a significant concern in Pakistan, despite stricter legislation. Between 2007 and 2018, 1,485 cases were reported, primarily involving women targeted over personal disputes, marriage rejections, or dowry conflicts.

In 2018, Pakistan’s National Assembly passed the Acid and Burn Crime Bill, imposing life sentences and hefty fines for such crimes. As a result, incidents have decreased by 50% since 2014. However, sporadic cases continue to occur, highlighting the persistent threat of acid violence.

This attack is the latest in a series of similar incidents. In September last year, three women from a family were burned in an acid attack in Rohillanwali. In April this year, a Karachi court sentenced a man to 14 years in prison for attacking his wife with acid.

Police are actively investigating the Multan case and searching for the suspect. Authorities have urged the public to report any information regarding Majid's whereabouts.
