Rawalpindi Police Rescue Afghan Family, Arrest Three Kidnappers

Rawalpindi police successfully rescued an Afghan woman and her two sons and arrested three suspected kidnappers during an operation on Wednesday, a police spokesman confirmed.

According to the statement, the victims were foreigners who had been lured from Afghanistan under false pretenses of receiving visas for a European country. Upon learning of the abduction, City Police Officer (CPO) Syed Khalid Hamdani took immediate notice and ordered swift action for the recovery of the victims.

Swift Police Action Leads to Rescue

A special police team, supervised by Potohar Superintendent of Police, was formed to trace the suspects. Using CCTV footage, human intelligence, and technical tracking methods, law enforcement was able to locate and arrest the kidnappers during a well-coordinated raid.

“The suspects will be charged with solid evidence and given exemplary punishment,” said CPO Hamdani, reaffirming the police’s commitment to combating crime.

Rising Cases of Foreign Nationals Being Targeted

This incident is part of a disturbing trend where foreign nationals have been targeted in Pakistan for financial or criminal motives. In April last year, a Swiss embassy staffer and five others were robbed and held hostage for six hours in Islamabad, forced to withdraw money from an ATM.

Similarly, in February 2021, two foreign nationals—a Swiss and a German citizen—were kidnapped in Lahore, with their captors demanding a Rs300 million ransom. They were later released after paying Rs10.4 million, with an agreement to arrange the remaining sum.

Conclusion

The swift action by Rawalpindi police in rescuing the Afghan family underscores the importance of intelligence-led policing in tackling cross-border crimes. Authorities have assured that the suspects will face strict legal consequences, sending a strong message against such offenses in the country.
