Omar Ayub, Ahmed Khan Bhachar Indicted in May 9 Mianwali Attack Case

The Special Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has formally indicted several Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders in connection with the May 9 attack on the Mianwali Judicial Complex.

During the hearing, ATC Judge Muhammad Naeem Sheikh indicted:

  • Omar Ayub (Opposition Leader, National Assembly)
  • Ahmed Khan Bhachar (Opposition Leader, Punjab Assembly)
  • MNA Bilal Ijaz
  • Ahmed Chatha
  • And other accused individuals

The accused denied the charges, pleading not guilty.

Case Background

The City Mianwali police station registered an FIR against 57 named individuals and 150 unidentified suspects on May 9, 2023, after violent protests broke out.

The court has now adjourned the hearing until February 28, summoning witnesses for the next session.

Legal & Political Implications

The indictment of key PTI figures in a terrorism-related case marks a significant legal development amid ongoing cases against May 9 protestors. PTI leaders have consistently maintained that the charges are politically motivated.
