One Killed, Three Injured in Terrorist Attack on Police Post in Bajaur

A man was killed while three others, including two police officials, were injured after unidentified terrorists attacked a police post in Bajaur district’s Barang tehsil in the early hours of Saturday.

According to police and local residents, the attack took place at around 2am at a police post located in the hilly Kohi Sar area, approximately 22 kilometres from Khar, the district headquarters.

District police spokesperson Israr Khan told Dawn that the deceased was identified as 60-year-old Naseem Gul, a local resident. The injured included two police constables — 35-year-old Suliman Khan and 58-year-old Saz Muhammad — along with 28-year-old Sahibzada, a school watchman.

The injured were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Khar, where doctors described their condition as stable.

According to the police spokesperson, the attackers used both heavy and light weapons during the assault. Following the incident, a joint team comprising police and security forces reached the area and launched a clearance operation to track down the assailants.

The attack comes amid a broader surge in militant violence across Pakistan. Despite record militant casualties in security operations, the country witnessed a sharp escalation in terrorism in 2025. Data released by the Islamabad-based Pak Institute for Peace Studies shows a 34 per cent increase in terrorist attacks and a 21 per cent rise in terrorism-related fatalities compared to the previous year.

A total of 699 terrorist attacks were recorded nationwide in 2025, claiming at least 1,034 lives and injuring 1,366 others. The figures highlight a troubling trend of rising militancy that has persisted since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021.
