The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) on Saturday successfully conducted the flight test of the indigenously developed “Taimoor” weapon system, marking a major milestone in the country’s growing defence and aerospace capabilities.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the successful test demonstrates Pakistan’s advancing technological maturity and self-reliance in the defence sector.
The Taimoor is an air-launched cruise missile capable of engaging both land and sea-based enemy targets with high precision at a range of up to 600 kilometres. The missile carries a conventional warhead and is equipped with a state-of-the-art navigation and guidance system.
ISPR said the weapon is designed to fly at very low altitudes, enabling it to evade hostile air and missile defence systems effectively. Its precision-strike capability significantly enhances the PAF’s operational flexibility and strengthens Pakistan’s conventional deterrence posture.
“The successful flight test underscores the technical maturity, innovation and self-reliance achieved by Pakistan’s defence industry,” the statement said, adding that senior officers of the Pakistan Armed Forces witnessed the launch alongside scientists and engineers who played a key role in the missile’s development.
Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu congratulated the scientists, engineers and PAF personnel involved in the project. He praised their professionalism, dedication and commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s defence capabilities.
The air chief reaffirmed that such achievements reflect the nation’s resolve to attain technological self-sufficiency and maintain a credible conventional deterrent amid an evolving regional security environment. He said the successful test highlighted the PAF’s continued pursuit of operational readiness, technological superiority and national security objectives.
President Asif Ali Zardari also paid tribute to the Pakistan Air Force for the successful test. He said the indigenous development of modern weapon systems was a clear reflection of national capability, resolve and institutional expertise.
The president added that the successful test further strengthened Pakistan’s defence and reinforced its responsible defence policy aimed at maintaining regional stability. He lauded the hard work and spirit of national service shown by scientists, engineers and PAF officers and personnel.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also congratulated the PAF, saying the successful test of the Taimoor weapon system would further enhance the country’s defence capabilities, according to state-run Radio Pakistan.
