POLITICS & POLICY MAKING

The Senate session was once again marred by uproar, as opposition members fiercely protested the suspension of their colleagues’ memberships by Deputy Chairman Senate, Syedal Khan. The session saw heightened tensions when opposition members gathered around the Deputy Chairman's desk, demanding the reversal of the decision.
Suspension of Memberships
Deputy Chairman Syedal Khan took a firm stance during the proceedings, announcing the suspension of opposition members Aun Abbas, Humayun Mohmand, and Falak Naz Chitrali for the remainder of the current session. He also issued orders for their expulsion from the House, a move that was met with vehement protests from the opposition.
The opposition raised slogans such as "Deputy Chairman, resign" and expressed their displeasure with the treatment of members during the session. Opposition Leader Shibli Faraz condemned the Deputy Chairman’s actions, calling the treatment of members unacceptable.
Response from Deputy Chairman and Law Minister
In his defense, the Deputy Chairman clarified that the session would be conducted according to law and that disruptive behavior would not be tolerated. He emphasized that such actions were necessary to maintain order in the House.
Law Minister Azam Nazir Tarar suggested that the matter be dismissed to allow the session to continue without further disruption. However, the government members responded with sarcastic comments, further escalating the tension between the two sides.
Restoration of Chairman Senate Demand
The situation grew more heated when the opposition members began chanting "Restore the Chairman Senate," demanding the reinstatement of the Chairman, who had been absent during the session. The protestors were determined in their stance, and the House witnessed a significant breakdown in communication between the opposing sides.
Adjournment of the Session
After several exchanges between the opposition and government benches, the Deputy Chairman was forced to adjourn the Senate session until 10:30 a.m. on Friday morning, with hopes of resuming proceedings in a more orderly manner.
