Pakistan Airports Authority Denies Reports of Airspace Closure for Commercial Flights

The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has categorically rejected reports claiming that Pakistan’s airspace has been partially closed for commercial flights, terming such claims as baseless and misleading.

In a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM), the authority clarified that recent reports circulating on social media and certain media outlets regarding airspace restrictions were incorrect and lacked context.

According to the NOTAM, the situation pertains only to routine operational information involving the temporary unavailability of specific air traffic service route segments within the Karachi and Lahore Flight Information Regions (FIRs).

The PAA explained that from March 3 to March 31, certain route segments within these FIRs would remain temporarily unavailable from ground level to unlimited altitudes during specific daily time windows. The restrictions are purely operational in nature and are part of standard aviation management procedures.

Importantly, the authority emphasized that Pakistan’s airspace remains fully open, safe, and operational for all civil aviation activities, including commercial passenger and cargo flights.

“There has been no disruption in air traffic services,” the NOTAM stated, adding that alternative routes for the affected segments are being utilized as per normal practice to ensure uninterrupted flight operations.

The clarification comes amid heightened regional tensions that had fueled speculation about possible airspace restrictions. Aviation officials reiterated that all international and domestic flights are operating smoothly, and there is no cause for concern among airlines or passengers.
