Pakistan and India Exchange Prisoners at Wagah-Attari Post

A significant gesture of goodwill between Pakistan and India took place today as both countries exchanged one prisoner each at the Wagah-Attari border.

According to security sources, Pakistan handed over Pranam Kumar Shah, an official of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF), to Indian authorities. In return, Pakistan received Muhammadullah, a member of the Punjab Rangers, who was previously arrested by Indian forces for border violations.

The exchange took place after the two countries agreed to a ceasefire on May 12, which was brokered by the Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMO) from both sides. The ceasefire agreement marked a significant step in de-escalating tensions along the border, which have seen frequent skirmishes in recent years.

The exchange of prisoners between the two nations is seen as a positive development, signaling a willingness to reduce hostilities and address humanitarian concerns. Both Pranam Kumar Shah and Muhammadullah were arrested for alleged border violations, with Shah apprehended by Pakistani forces and Muhammadullah arrested by Indian forces.

This prisoner exchange comes as both nations continue to navigate their complex relations, with the ceasefire agreement marking a new chapter in peace efforts between Pakistan and India.
