Rising Boat Tragedies
The incident is the latest in a series of boat tragedies involving migrants seeking to cross the Mediterranean.
Last week, 29 migrant bodies were recovered in Libya, with 19 discovered in a mass grave linked to smuggling activities. The Red Crescent also recovered 10 bodies from a boat that sank near the same port.
Pakistanis have been frequent victims of similar incidents. In June 2023, up to 300 Pakistanis were believed to have perished in one of the deadliest boat disasters off the coast of Greece.
The FIA has since intensified screenings at airports to curb illegal migration, offloading 2,500 passengers at Lahore Airport in January alone.
Authorities continue efforts to combat human smuggling and ensure the safety of Pakistanis traveling abroad.
