Speaker NA Slams Islamabad HC Judge's Remarks as Attack on Parliament

Speaker of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq, during an assembly session, termed the recent remarks by Islamabad High Court (IHC) Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani as an "attack on Parliament."

The Speaker expressed strong disapproval, stating that "no one has the right to make statements about Parliament." He instructed the Federal Law Minister to communicate a firm message to the concerned judge, emphasizing that "Parliament is supreme."

Justice Kayani's Remarks
Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani made the remarks while hearing a petition challenging the suspension of results by the Federal Public Service Commission. He stated that "all pillars, including the judiciary, parliament, and administration, have fallen. The pillar of the judiciary is in the air, but we are still not disappointed."

Response to the Judiciary's Comments
The Speaker’s ruling highlighted the importance of maintaining respect for parliamentary institutions. "Parliament is a foundational pillar of democracy, and such comments undermine its dignity," Sadiq emphasized.

Election Commissioner Appointments
Separately, the Speaker mentioned that letters have been issued to both the government and opposition regarding the appointment of the new Election Commissioner, urging cooperation for a timely decision.

The remarks by both judicial and parliamentary officials have stirred a debate on the balance of power and respect among state institutions.
