Islamabad: Pakistan witnessed a grim escalation in terror activities throughout 2024, making it the deadliest year for security forces in over a decade. According to the Centre for Research and Security Studies’ annual report, 685 members of Pakistan's security forces were martyred in 444 terror attacks, primarily in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan.

The banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)’s decision to end a fragile ceasefire agreement further fueled the surge in attacks, creating unprecedented challenges for civil and military security forces.

Prime Minister's Statement

Addressing a Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) meeting, the prime minister emphasized that Pakistan's economic development was intrinsically linked to political stability and robust security measures.

“Security has become a big challenge today, and we cannot move forward without crushing the head of terrorism,” he stated, paying tribute to the sacrifices of security personnel who laid down their lives in service to the nation.

The prime minister highlighted the need for collective national efforts to eradicate terrorism, urging citizens to honor the sacrifices of those who defend Pakistan against these threats.

Kurram Peace Agreement: A Glimmer of Hope

In a positive development, a peace agreement was signed in Kurram District after three weeks of negotiations. The 14-point agreement, announced by the provincial government, aims to enforce a permanent ceasefire, resolve land disputes, and ban weapons in the conflict-ridden district.

While commending the agreement as a significant step towards stability, the prime minister cautioned against repeating past mistakes. “This is a lesson that such heartbreaking incidents should not happen again,” he remarked.

The Rising Toll

The resurgence of terrorism has led to daily tragedies. Frontier Corps, police, and army personnel remain the primary targets, with an average of 10 lives lost per incident. The ongoing wave of violence underscores the urgent need for strategic and united action against extremist elements.

The leadership reiterated its commitment to strengthening Pakistan’s security framework and fostering unity among political and societal factions. “Every sacrifice must be honored,” the prime minister said, urging collective resolve to eliminate terrorism and ensure peace for future generations.
