The Pakistan Navy has successfully conducted a test of a surface-to-air missile, further strengthening the country’s maritime air defence capabilities, the military’s media wing said on Saturday.
According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Navy test-fired the LY-80 missile, which successfully intercepted and destroyed an aerial target at long range.
The ISPR said the test was witnessed by the Commander Pakistan Fleet, and described the successful launch as a clear reflection of the operational readiness and effectiveness of the Pakistan Navy’s air defence system.
“The successful test of the LY-80 surface-to-air missile demonstrates the Pakistan Navy’s capability to defend its maritime domain against evolving aerial threats,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi congratulated the Pakistan Navy on the successful missile test, calling it another major achievement in the country’s defence sector.
In his message, Naqvi said Pakistan had achieved yet another milestone under the leadership of Field Marshal Asim Munir and Naval Chief Admiral Naveed Ashraf. He added that the successful test of the LY-80 missile was a significant step towards strengthening national defence and ensuring maritime security.
“The success reflects the professionalism, preparedness and technological advancement of Pakistan’s armed forces,” the interior minister said.
The test comes amid ongoing efforts by Pakistan’s armed forces to modernise their defence systems and enhance readiness against conventional and non-conventional threats.
