Pakistan Urges UN to Act Against Israel’s Gaza Aggression, Calls for Immediate Ceasefire

Pakistan has urged the United Nations to take decisive action against Israel’s ongoing aggression in Gaza, warning that failure to act will expose the international system to lawlessness and destruction.

Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Munir Akram, condemned Israel’s continued military operations, including renewed bombing campaigns and the blockade of humanitarian aid.

Humanitarian Crisis Worsens

Ambassador Akram highlighted the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, where over 90% of the population is suffering from hunger due to Israel’s blockade. He accused Israel of expanding its military operations to the West Bank, particularly in Jenin, Nur Shams, and Tulkarm refugee camps, displacing Palestinians at a scale not seen since 1967.

“The world is witnessing a genocide in Gaza,” Ambassador Akram stated, adding that the UN Charter’s core principles are at risk if powerful states continue to act with impunity.

Pakistan’s Demands at the UN

Pakistan made the following urgent demands:

🔹 Immediate halt to Israeli military operations in Gaza and the West Bank.
🔹 Implementation of the January 15 agreement, which includes releasing hostages and withdrawing Israeli forces.
🔹 A permanent ceasefire with mediation from Qatar, Egypt, and the United States.
🔹 The UN Security Council must enforce resolutions against Israel.

Ambassador Akram stressed that if the Security Council fails to act, the world will descend into a "Hobbesian hell" where conflict and destruction dominate.

Path to a Two-State Solution

Pakistan reiterated its commitment to a two-state solution, urging the international community to create conditions for peace ahead of the upcoming Saudi Arabia-France co-chaired peace conference in June.

“Only a just and lasting peace will end the suffering of the Palestinian people,” Ambassador Akram concluded.
