A high-level delegation of the Senate of Pakistan, led by Deputy Chairman Senator Syedaal Khan, will undertake an official visit to the United States from January 20 to 25, 2026, the Senate Secretariat announced on Tuesday.

The visit comes against the backdrop of a noticeable thaw in Pakistan–United States relations during 2025, a year characterised by renewed high-level engagement, strategic recalibration, and evolving regional dynamics. The Senate Secretariat described the upcoming visit as a “historic milestone” in Pak–US parliamentary relations, marking the beginning of a new institutional chapter in bilateral engagement.

According to the Secretariat, the visit is being organised under the auspices of the Pakistan Policy Institute USA and will, for the first time, include the United States–Pakistan Inter-Parliamentary Group. The development was termed a major achievement in strategic and non-traditional parliamentary diplomacy.

“This initiative reflects a shared commitment to strengthening democratic institutions through direct engagement between elected legislatures,” the statement said, adding that the visit is taking place at a critical juncture of global and regional transformation, particularly in South Asia and the Middle East.

The Secretariat said the delegation will pursue clearly defined strategic objectives, including the establishment of a permanent institutional mechanism for sustained inter-parliamentary dialogue between the US Congress and the Senate of Pakistan.

“The delegation aims to promote democratic values, exchange best legislative practices, enhance parliamentary oversight, and strengthen institutional cooperation beyond traditional executive-level diplomacy,” the statement noted.

The visit will also focus on engagement with the Pakistani-American community, providing them with Pakistan’s parliamentary perspective on key regional and global issues. Additionally, the delegation will seek to advance scientific, cultural, and policy-oriented cooperation between the two countries.

In a significant first, no Pakistani parliamentary delegation has previously held formal engagements at the Rayburn House Office Building under the auspices of the US Congress in the 77-year history of Pakistan–US relations, making the upcoming visit particularly noteworthy.

The programme will include a press conference and media interactions at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., as well as community and policy receptions in New Jersey.

The Secretariat expressed confidence that the visit would lay the groundwork for regular parliamentary exchanges, enhanced legislative cooperation, and a sustainable institutional partnership between Pakistan and the United States, anchored in democratic principles, mutual respect, and long-term strategic engagement.

It is pertinent to note that in April last year, a US Congressional delegation visited Pakistan and termed their trip “highly successful and productive”. The delegation, comprising Congressmen Jack Bergman, Tom Suozzi, and Jonathan Jackson, held meetings with senior Pakistani leadership, including Field Marshal Asim Munir.
