A 36-year-old patient died, and 15 others were affected in the chest ward of Mayo Hospital due to an alleged reaction to the Ceftriaxone injection, hospital administration confirmed.
Adverse Reactions and Hospital Response
According to Mayo Hospital officials, three of the affected patients are in critical condition on ventilators, while the use of the injection has been immediately suspended.
A committee led by Professor Dr. Asrar-ul-Haq Toor has been formed to investigate the incident. The committee includes key hospital officials, such as the chief pharmacist, deputy nursing officer, and AMS Mayo Hospital.
Mayo Hospital Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Professor Muhammad Haroon Hamid, stated that legal action will be taken against those responsible.
Concerns Over Drug Procurement and Administration
Hospital sources have raised serious concerns about recent drug procurement practices, suggesting that:
- The medications were purchased without proper lab testing.
- Patients were not screened before being administered the injection.
This incident has sparked outrage, with calls for greater accountability and stricter quality control in public hospitals.

Authorities have assured the public that the investigation will be thorough and transparent. If negligence is found, strict legal action will be taken to prevent such tragedies in the future.
