Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appeared in a Lahore court via video link on Monday in a Rs 10 billion damages case filed against the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
At the start of the hearing, PM Shehbaz Sharif extended his congratulations to the judge and everyone present, to which the PTI founder’s lawyer responded by calling it a moment of great joy and a victory for the entire nation.
During cross-examination, the PTI lawyer questioned Shehbaz Sharif about whether newspapers were made parties to the claim or served legal notices. The prime minister responded by referring to an April 28, 2017 rally held by the PTI founder at Parade Ground, coverage of which was published in newspapers the following day.
When asked about the Panama case verdict, Shehbaz Sharif clarified that the case was not filed against him, and therefore, he was unaware of the outcome. Upon further inquiry about the parties involved in the Panama case, Shehbaz Sharif replied that they were not parties but acknowledged it as part of the record.
The court adjourned the hearing until June 2 for further proceedings.
