PM Shehbaz, PTI Signal Readiness for Talks Amid Call for National Unity

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended an olive branch to the opposition during a National Assembly session, urging for dialogue, unity, and national reconciliation. The offer was positively received by PTI parliamentary leader Barrister Gauhar Ali Khan, who welcomed the call for talks and emphasized the importance of national interest over political divides.

Addressing the house, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said,

“Today we have to show the whole world that we are all united. I am ready to go to the opposition leader’s chamber myself. This is not the time for accusations but for national consensus.”

He urged the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to sit down for discussions, asserting that this would send a strong message of unity to both domestic and international observers.

🔹 PTI Responds Positively

Responding to the Prime Minister’s proposal, Barrister Gauhar Ali Khan stated,

“We welcome the offer of talks. Pakistan is our red line — there can be no compromise on it.”

He supported the notion of national unity in the face of growing regional threats and internal challenges. Citing India’s increasing aggression, Gauhar emphasized that Pakistan is capable of defending itself, referencing the downing of five Indian aircraft as proof of the country’s military preparedness.

Gauhar also criticized India for not condemning the recent Jaffar Express attack, asserting that the time for silence is over.

“Everyone will have to come forward now. Clapping does not work with one hand,” he said, urging collective responsibility in achieving reconciliation.

🔹 Call for Practical Steps and Imran Khan’s Release

While expressing readiness for talks, Barrister Gauhar underscored that this process must go beyond symbolism. He appreciated the Prime Minister's invitation to meet in his chamber, calling it a positive sign, but added,

“This process needs practical steps, not just words.”

He further demanded the release of Imran Khan and other political prisoners as a first step toward national reconciliation, calling Imran the country’s “greatest public leader.”

Gauhar also urged the Speaker of the National Assembly to play an active role in facilitating serious dialogue between the government and the opposition.

🔹 Signs of Political De-escalation

The mutual willingness to engage in talks has led to a visible relaxation in political tensions, offering a rare moment of hope amid months of confrontation. Political analysts see this exchange as a crucial opportunity to build consensus on key national challenges, including the economy, security, and democratic stability.

Both leaders’ emphasis on dialogue and unity comes at a time when Pakistan faces mounting pressure—internally and externally—to stabilize and present a united front.
