Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has unveiled a detailed plan for the restructuring of various government ministries as part of a broader effort to streamline administrative operations and reduce inefficiencies.

According to a document obtained by Today News, the plan involves significant changes including the abolition and merging of several ministries. Key recommendations include:

Merger of Ministries: The Ministry of Saffron will be merged into the Ministry of Kashmir Affairs, and the Ministry of Commerce will be integrated into the Ministry of Industry and Production.

Reduction of Vacant Posts: 60 percent of the vacant positions within the ministries will be eliminated to cut down on unnecessary administrative costs.

Institution Closures: The National Information Technology Board (NITB) and other institutions such as the National Fertilizer Corporation and NFMI will be closed. Additionally, the Drug Regulatory Authority’s future will be decided by the Prime Minister.

Reorganization: Virtual University will be brought under the Ministry of Education, while Sumeda, currently under the Ministry of Industry, will be placed under the Prime Minister's Office.

Staff Reductions: The staff of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan Council will be reduced, and 98 vacant positions at the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) will be eliminated.

The restructuring aims to enhance efficiency and address administrative redundancies within the government. Prime Minister Sharif’s plan reflects ongoing efforts to optimize government operations amidst economic challenges.
