Rana Sanaullah Calls Meetings with Maulana Fazlur Rehman “Fruitful” as Constitutional Amendments Face Delay

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, has characterized recent meetings with Maulana Fazlur Rehman as productive and beneficial for the democratic process. Speaking to the media at the Parliament House, Sanaullah emphasized that the discussions between Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Bilawal Bhutto have been constructive and aimed at broadening the consultation process, which he believes is advantageous for the political system.

Sanaullah noted that the widening of consultation efforts is a positive development, countering any claims that the meetings were unproductive. The consultation process will now be extended, necessitating an indefinite adjournment of the parliamentary sessions.

The anticipated draft constitutional amendments, which were scheduled for presentation in the Parliament, faced delays as the government failed to secure the necessary majority by late night. Consequently, both the National Assembly and the Senate sessions were adjourned indefinitely. The speaker and chairman of the respective houses have rescheduled the meetings for today.

The delay reflects ongoing negotiations and efforts to build consensus around the amendments, underscoring the complexities involved in advancing legislative changes.
