POLITICS & POLICY MAKING

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged brotherly countries, including Saudi Arabia, to exert diplomatic pressure on India to help reduce growing regional tensions. His remarks came during a meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Nawaf bin Saeed Al-Maliki, held in Islamabad on Friday.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed appreciation to the Saudi leadership and people for their unwavering solidarity with Pakistan. The discussion also covered regional peace, security, and recent developments impacting Pakistan-India relations.
Referring to the tragic Pahalgam incident, where over two dozen people were killed in occupied Kashmir, Prime Minister Shehbaz categorically rejected India’s baseless allegations attempting to link Pakistan to the attack. He reiterated Pakistan’s demand for a transparent and impartial international investigation into the incident.
The prime minister also raised concerns over India’s attempts to destabilize Pakistan’s progress. “Indian efforts to jeopardize Pakistan’s achievements and derail its economic development are incomprehensible,” he said.
He urged Saudi Arabia and other friendly nations to play a proactive role in urging India to abandon its confrontational posture, emphasizing that such tensions threaten broader regional peace.
Prime Minister Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to fighting terrorism, noting the great sacrifices Pakistan has made over the years in counter-terrorism operations.
In response, Ambassador Al-Maliki reassured the prime minister that Saudi Arabia stands with Pakistan and desires to work closely with Islamabad for the peace and stability of the region.
This engagement comes amid rising diplomatic tensions between Islamabad and New Delhi, with Pakistan seeking international support to counter what it views as unjustified Indian aggression.
