PML-N Leader Khawaja Saad Rafique: Democracy Cannot Be Run via “Remote Control”

Khawaja Saad Rafique, a senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), expressed concerns about the current state of democracy in Pakistan, asserting that it cannot be managed through “remote control.”

During his address, Rafique lamented that political parties have failed to learn from past mistakes, stating, “Due to the mistakes of some of the people, the entire political party has to bear the brunt. The party that is now facing the heat is also due to a similar reason.”

He emphasized the need for political cohesion, urging all parties to unite to combat foreign conspiracies that threaten the nation. “None of the political parties are ready to read their manifestos after getting them published,” he remarked, calling for accountability within the political landscape.

Rafique also pointed out that while the ongoing conflict between the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and the PML-N may seem significant, the real issues facing Balochistan are much graver. He cited India’s development as a contrast, lamenting, “Look how India is witnessing development, but it is not ready to accept our entity.”

Highlighting the struggles faced by the Pakistani populace, he stated, “Despite being a nuclear power, our people are having no roti to eat,” underscoring the dire economic conditions.

In a separate statement, PML-N leader Barrister Aqeel Malik revealed that the draft for a constitutional amendment has been prepared in the ministry of law. He indicated that work on the draft commenced in March-April, yet there has been no written decision regarding reserved seats even after three months. Malik mentioned that the PTI could secure reserved seats from a total of 39 available seats and criticized foreign media for allegedly exposing the PTI founder.
