Political Parties Petition Balochistan High Court to Postpone Quetta LG Elections

Several political parties have jointly filed a petition in the Balochistan High Court (BHC) seeking the postponement of local government elections in Quetta, citing concerns over adverse weather, voter list inaccuracies, and law and order issues.

The petition, submitted by Younis Baloch and other party representatives, contends that the prevailing severe cold and difficult weather conditions will prevent a significant number of voters from reaching polling stations, potentially undermining the transparency and fairness of the electoral process.

According to the petition, defects and inaccuracies in the voter lists further compromise the ability to hold fair elections. The petitioners argued that conducting elections under such circumstances would violate democratic principles and could pose threats to public peace and security.

The petition has been filed by major political parties, including the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Additionally, the Awami National Party (ANP) and Pashtunkhwa National Party (PNP) have also approached the court in support of the move.

The petitioners have requested the Balochistan High Court to direct the authorities to postpone the local government elections until conditions improve, ensuring that the electoral process is transparent, fair, and peaceful.

The development comes amid ongoing political debates in the province over election preparedness, voter registration accuracy, and security arrangements for upcoming local government polls.
