PPP Parliamentary Party Voices Concerns Over Budget Exclusion, Demands Government Consultation

The parliamentary party of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) raised serious concerns about their exclusion from the budget discussions by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government. The PPP has directed its budget proposals committee to contact the government by today to address these issues.

Senior PPP leader Khursheed Shah, speaking to the media outside the Parliament House, expressed frustration over the lack of transparency and communication from the government regarding the budget. "We do not know what the budget is and how it is," Shah stated. "The government has not taken us into confidence, and in the past, the opposition was always consulted. Now, as allies, we should be trusted."

During the parliamentary party meeting, PPP members voiced their dissatisfaction with the PML-N's unilateral handling of the budget process. Elected members of the assembly insisted on the necessity of providing relief to the people in the budget. The PPP made it clear that while they support the PML-N government for the sake of democracy, they will not compromise on the interests of the people.

Shah also emphasized the importance of consultation, particularly in light of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) conditions that may influence the budget. He stressed that the PPP, having been in power before and aspiring to return to power with the people's support, stands firm in its demand for transparency and collaboration.

PPP spokesperson Shazia Murri, after the meeting, reiterated the party's position. "A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Bilawal Bhutto to discuss the national budget. The PPP is committed to ensuring that the budget reflects the needs and interests of the people, and we demand that the PML-N government consults with our leadership," Murri stated.

The PPP's call for immediate government consultation underscores the party's commitment to democratic processes and transparency, aiming to safeguard public interests and ensure a budget that addresses the needs of the people.
