POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Barrister Gauhar on Tuesday said that the party’s visit to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi was solely intended to inquire about the well-being of PTI founder Imran Khan. He criticised attempts to politicise the matter and announced a shutter-down strike across the country on February 8.
Speaking to the media at Dahgal checkpoint near the jail, Barrister Gauhar said, “Our purpose is only to inquire about the PTI founder, but this matter is being unnecessarily made into an issue.”
He added that negotiations regarding the situation have now reached the level of the party’s five elders, but attempts are being made to aggravate tensions.
“The real strength of PTI’s founder is the determination of the workers. The people will continue to stand with him,” he said, highlighting public resilience against perceived state harshness.
Barrister Gauhar demanded that Imran Khan’s sisters be allowed to meet him at the jail. He also announced that he would not attend the upcoming national conference, emphasising that party issues should remain internal.
The nationwide shutter-down strike on February 8 is part of PTI’s ongoing political mobilisations amid tensions surrounding the detention of its founder.
