PTI Moves Peshawar High Court for KP CM Sohail Afridi’s Oath-Taking

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced its decision to approach the Peshawar High Court (PHC) to ensure the oath-taking of newly elected Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, whose swearing-in has faced delays.

Speaking to the media outside the Peshawar High Court, PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja said that since Sohail Afridi has been duly elected as Chief Minister, it is the constitutional duty of the Governor to administer the oath without delay.

“The Governor should have been present in the province to administer the oath. It is necessary for the Chief Minister to take the oath immediately — this process cannot be delayed,” Raja emphasized.

He further revealed that PTI has filed an application in the Peshawar High Court, requesting the Chief Justice to intervene in the matter.

“A letter will be submitted to the Chief Justice in his chamber. The Constitution authorizes the Chief Justice to nominate any individual for administering the oath if the Governor is unavailable,” he explained.

Raja urged the court to resolve the issue on the same day, warning that the province cannot function without a government.

The move comes amid ongoing political uncertainty in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following the resignation of former CM Ali Amin Gandapur and the subsequent election of Sohail Afridi. The delay in oath-taking has raised concerns over administrative paralysis in the province.
