Punjab Government Eases Smog Restrictions, Construction, and Kiln Operations Allowed

The Punjab government has further relaxed smog restrictions, offering significant relief to various sectors in the province. A notification issued by DG Environment Dr. Imran Hamid Sheikh outlines new guidelines that will benefit construction activities, industrial operations, and public services in several districts, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Multan, and Faisalabad.

Key Changes in Smog Restrictions:

  • Construction Work: Permitted in four districts, including Lahore.
  • Kilns: Kilns using zigzag technology are allowed to operate.
  • Office Staff: Both government and private offices are allowed to function with 100% staff capacity.
  • Heavy Traffic: Heavy traffic will be allowed entry from Monday to Thursday but restricted from Friday to Sunday.
  • Shop and Market Timings: The decision to close shops, markets, and malls by 8 pm remains in place.
  • Dining Hours: Restaurants can serve indoor and outdoor dining until 10 pm, while barbecues must be cooked with a hood system in place.

Impact and Future Outlook:

These decisions reflect the provincial government's ongoing efforts to balance public health concerns with economic and operational needs. The relaxing of restrictions is expected to ease the burden on various industries while ensuring air quality remains monitored.
