Punjab Governor Calls PPP-PML(N) Alliance a Compulsion, Urges KP to Cooperate for Provincial Rights

Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider has described the alliance between the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) as a “compulsion,” emphasizing that the partnership is based on national necessity rather than political affection.

Speaking at a joint press conference alongside Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, Governor Haider said that the KP government must adopt a political approach to secure its rights, stressing that “Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif is the leader of the country, and relations with him should be improved.”

He maintained that political differences are natural, but cooperation is essential for the welfare of the provinces. “The rights of the people of KP are your responsibility. You must achieve them through good working relations,” he advised.

Addressing internal party matters, the governor stated that relations with the Punjab government remain cordial, though he remarked that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz “should not have been upset.” He added that the Prime Minister has assured the PPP leadership of addressing their concerns.

“The alliance between the People’s Party and the Muslim League-N is one of compulsion. Our workers may not accept each other easily, but we have prioritized Pakistan over political interests,” said Haider. “We are willing to bear losses for the sake of the country’s betterment.”

Meanwhile, KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi acknowledged past tensions between provinces over water and canal disputes but reassured that the Governor House “will never stand in the way of peace and development in the province.”

The remarks highlight the fragile yet strategic partnership between the PPP and PML-N, as both parties navigate internal challenges while maintaining a united front amid Pakistan’s ongoing political and economic uncertainties.
