Punjab Govt to Reform Criminal Laws, Forms Legal Committee

The Punjab government has decided to introduce major reforms in criminal laws to make them more modern and effective, according to the provincial home department.

A Legal Reform Committee has been constituted to draft amendments to key laws, including:
Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) 1898
Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) 1860
Qanun-e-Shahadat (Evidence Law) 1984
A new National Security Law

The committee, headed by DIG Kamran Adil, will submit its recommendations within 3 months.

Key Focus Areas of Reform:

📌 Protection of Women & Children – Special amendments to safeguard vulnerable groups.
📌 Counter-Terrorism & Cybercrime – Modernizing laws for digital security and inter-provincial coordination.

The Punjab home department stated that these reforms aim to create a more effective justice system and enhance public trust in law enforcement.
