MILITARY
Security forces killed seven terrorists during three separate operations conducted in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on November 18 and 19, the military’s media affairs wing announced on Thursday. According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the militants belonged to what it described as the “Indian proxy Fitna-al-Khawarij,” a term used by the state for the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Breakdown of the Operations
The first intelligence-based operation (IBO) was carried out in the Mohmand district, where troops engaged terrorists at a reported hideout. After an intense firefight, four militants were killed, the ISPR confirmed.
A second operation took place in Lakki Marwat, where security forces neutralised two more terrorists during another armed exchange.
In the third encounter in the Tank district, security personnel killed an additional militant, bringing the total to seven.
The ISPR added that sanitisation operations were ongoing in all three regions to clear any remaining militants. It reaffirmed that Pakistan’s counterterrorism operations under “Azm-i-Istehkam”, approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, would continue at full pace to eliminate “foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism.”
Prime Minister Praises Security Forces
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif congratulated the security forces for the successful operations, commending their professionalism and dedication.
“We will continue the war against the monster of terrorism until its complete elimination,” he said, adding that the entire nation “stands shoulder to shoulder with the armed forces” in safeguarding Pakistan.
Operations Earlier This Week
The latest update comes just two days after ISPR reported the killing of 38 terrorists in four IBOs over three days. Among those killed was Alam Mehsud, a ringleader, in an operation in the Kulachi area of Dera Ismail Khan.
Other recent operations include:
- Datta Khel (North Waziristan): 5 terrorists killed
- Bajaur: 11 terrorists killed
- Bannu: 12 terrorists killed
Last week, ISPR reported that 24 terrorists were killed in three separate engagements in KP and Balochistan.
Rising Terror Threat
Pakistan has experienced a sharp increase in terrorist attacks, particularly in KP and Balochistan, since the TTP ended its ceasefire with the government in November 2022. The group has since vowed to target security forces, police, and other law enforcement personnel.
A recent report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) noted that violence has surged nationwide over the past three months, driven by intensified militant activity and subsequent counterterrorism measures.
