Security Lockdown: Sindh Imposes 60-Day Ban on Drone Flying Under Section 144

In response to the "prevailing security environment" and potential threats to vital installations, the Sindh government has enforced a strict 60-day ban on the outdoor use of drones, quadcopters, and helicams. The restriction, issued under Section 144, aims to prevent the misuse of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) by "undesirable elements." While law enforcement and intelligence agencies are exempt, local police have been authorized to register cases against private violators. This move comes amid heightened regional tensions and a broader effort to ensure foolproof security across the province.

Security Lockdown: Sindh Imposes 60-Day Ban on Drone Flying Under Section 144

Sindh’s Comprehensive Ban

The Sindh Home Department has invoked Section 144, enforcing a total prohibition on flying drones and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) across the entire province for 60 days. This move is a preemptive measure to maintain law and order and protect sensitive locations. The government has warned that any individual found violating this order will face strict legal consequences.

Punjab’s Extended Restrictions

This news follows a similar move in Punjab, where the government recently extended its own drone ban for another 30 days (effective until May 25). However, Punjab has provided a slight concession:

  • Indoor Use: Small drones are allowed for private events held inside marquees or wedding halls in Lahore.

  • Responsibility: Event organizers are held strictly accountable for the safe operation of these devices indoors.

Exemptions and Enforcement

In both provinces, the restrictions do not apply to law enforcement or intelligence agencies. The primary objective behind these measures is the protection of public property and the mitigation of security threats. Local police and administrative authorities have been ordered to ensure zero tolerance for unauthorized outdoor drone activity.
