Senator Faisal Vawda Reacts to Faiz Hameed’s 14-Year Sentence, Urges Action on May 9 Cases

Reacting to the sentencing of former DG ISI Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed to 14 years of rigorous imprisonment, Senator Faisal Vawda said the verdict confirms that no one is above the law in Pakistan, while emphasizing that the May 9 cases remain pending and will also see accountability.

Speaking to Geo News, Vawda noted that the sentence of Faiz Hameed validates his earlier statement that the ex-spymaster would face punishment, though not a death sentence. “This decision has made it clear that there is no father greater than Pakistan. Now the foundation of punishment has been laid,” he said.

Pending May 9 Cases

Senator Vawda highlighted that the ongoing trials related to the May 9 incidents, which involved violent protests and attacks on state institutions, media, and democracy, still await verdicts. He emphasized that these cases carry a minimum sentence of 14 years, underscoring the importance of justice for the destruction and loss caused during the unrest.

Vawda criticized the role of PTI and its founder in orchestrating the events, describing the incidents as an attempt to disrupt state, politics, judiciary, and media. He said his warnings against such actions were ignored, but the current judicial outcomes affirm that accountability prevails.

Praise for Military Accountability

He also praised Field Marshal Asim Munir and the military institution for initiating the accountability process against high-ranking officials, stressing that no individual, regardless of position, will be shielded from punishment for crimes against the state and its citizens.

“Even the trial of one of their own was not stopped; this has never happened before in Pakistan’s history. Accountability and justice are being enforced,” Vawda said.

Conclusion

Senator Vawda’s comments come amid nationwide attention on the conviction of Faiz Hameed and ongoing legal proceedings against other individuals involved in the May 9 unrest. His statements reinforce the message that Pakistan’s institutions are committed to holding everyone accountable for actions that threaten democracy, public safety, and national integrity.
