SHC Grants Arif Alvi 30-Day Protective Bail, IHC Hears Imran Khan’s Jail Facility Petition

The Sindh High Court (SHC) granted 30-day protective bail to former President Dr. Arif Alvi on Monday, ensuring temporary immunity from arrest in a case filed against him at Wah Cantt police station.

Arif Alvi’s Protective Bail

Dr. Arif Alvi’s legal counsel, Barrister Ali Tahir, filed a petition requesting protective bail, citing concerns about his client’s arrest before reaching the relevant court.

The SHC accepted the petition and granted the former president protective bail against a surety bond of Rs. 25,000. The court explicitly directed authorities not to arrest Dr. Alvi during this period, allowing him to approach the appropriate judicial forum.

Imran Khan’s Petition in Islamabad High Court

Meanwhile, in a separate legal development, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) heard a petition by PTI founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, seeking basic facilities while in custody at Adiala Jail.

Imran Khan requested access to newspapers, television, regular medical checkups by his personal doctor, and telephonic communication with his sons.

Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court presided over the hearing and issued a notice to the Adiala Jail administration. The court instructed a representative from the jail to appear at the next hearing scheduled for January 23 to address the matter.

Legal Context and Implications

The developments mark ongoing legal battles involving high-profile figures from Pakistan's political landscape. Dr. Arif Alvi’s protective bail provides temporary respite amidst potential legal challenges, while Imran Khan’s plea highlights concerns about the treatment of incarcerated political leaders.

The legal outcomes of these cases are expected to influence public discourse and political dynamics in Pakistan.
