Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah Defends Right to Protest Against Canal Project on Indus River

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah reiterated the province’s right to protest against the proposed canal projects on the Indus River during a media briefing in Jamshoro. The Chief Minister emphasized that no one, including lawyers, had been stopped from exercising their right to protest.

In his remarks, CM Shah made it clear that Sindh's people are united in their opposition to the canal project, which they believe threatens the province’s water resources. The Sindh government has firmly presented its stance before the federal government, underscoring the urgency of addressing the issue.

Unity in Opposition to Canal Projects

CM Murad Ali Shah stated that Sindh's strong opposition to the project is not just a political stance but a collective effort by the people of the province. He expressed confidence that the unity of Sindh's people will make it clear to the federal government that the province is firm in its position against the canal project.

Condolences and Personal Engagement

Following his media statement, CM Murad Ali Shah paid a visit to Syed Ghazanfar Ali Shah in Dadu to offer his condolences on the passing of his father. After the condolence meeting, CM Shah left without making any further public statements.

Concerns Over Water Shortage from Sindh Minister Saeed Ghani

Earlier, Sindh Provincial Minister Saeed Ghani also voiced his serious reservations regarding the canal projects in a conversation with the media. He emphasized that the construction of new canals, especially amidst an ongoing water shortage in Sindh and Punjab, could prove disastrous for the farmers of both provinces.

Minister Ghani pointed out that Sindh and Punjab are currently facing a severe water crisis, and the construction of more canals in such conditions would exacerbate the issue. He stressed that the government should focus on addressing the current water scarcity rather than adding more infrastructure that would divert precious water resources. He also reaffirmed the responsibility of the Sindh government to fight for the interests of the province’s people in every forum.

Looking Ahead: Advocacy for Sindh’s Water Rights

Both CM Shah and Minister Ghani made it clear that the Sindh government will continue to fight for the province’s water rights and will not back down from opposing projects that could harm the people of Sindh. As discussions about the canal projects continue, the government remains committed to ensuring that Sindh’s water needs are not overlooked.
