Six suspects were killed in a series of alleged encounters with the Crime Control Department (CCD) in different areas of Lahore, according to police and media reports on Tuesday.
As reported by Geo News, the incidents took place in Nishtar Town, Green Town, Ring Road, and Harbanspura, where CCD personnel claimed to have returned fire after being attacked by armed suspects.
Police officials said the first encounter occurred in Nishtar Town, where suspects allegedly opened fire at a police checkpoint. In retaliation, police returned fire, killing two suspects on the spot.
In Green Town, police reported that a detained suspect was killed by the firing of his own accomplices who attempted to rescue him during a transfer operation.
Another clash took place along Ring Road, where two more suspects were killed, while two others managed to flee under the cover of darkness.
The sixth suspect was reportedly killed in an encounter near the Railway Gate area of Harbanspura, after police claimed he resisted arrest and opened fire.
Authorities have yet to release the identities of the deceased suspects. The CCD maintains that all actions were carried out in response to armed aggression, while the bodies have been shifted to nearby hospitals for postmortem examinations.
Human rights activists and legal observers have frequently expressed concern over the rising number of alleged police encounters in Punjab, calling for independent investigations into such incidents to ensure transparency and accountability.
An official inquiry into the latest series of encounters has not yet been announced.
