State Registers FIR in Deadly Bugti Family Gunfight in Karachi's DHA, Five Killed

An FIR was registered on behalf of the state on Friday following a violent gunfight between two factions of the Bugti family that resulted in five deaths and two injuries in Karachi's Defense Housing Authority (DHA) area late Thursday night, police reported.

South Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Asad Raza stated that the case, filed by a police officer, includes charges of terrorism and murder. He emphasized the decision to register the case on behalf of the state was to send a strong message that such violent acts would not be tolerated. Registering the FIR through the state prevents the possibility of a compromise between the conflicting parties, ensuring a thorough investigation.

The FIR, lodged by Sub-Inspector Mohammed Saleem Brohi of Darakhshan Police, detailed that nine to ten armed men from both sides, led by Fahad Bugti and Ali Haider Bugti, engaged in a shootout near Animal Hospital in Nishat Commercial. The deceased were identified as Fahad Bugti and Naseebullah from one group, and Meer Mohsim Bugti, Mir Essa Bugti, and Ali from the opposing side. Injured individuals, Ali Haider Bugti and Qaim Ali, were transported to a hospital for treatment.

DIG Raza disclosed that Ali Haider Bugti, who was among the injured, lost two sons in the clash. Police detained 17 individuals from the Bugti clan, arresting eight immediately after the incident and apprehending the remaining suspects early Friday morning. The injured members are being treated at Aga Khan University Hospital under police guard, as they are also considered suspects.

The shootout involved factions led by Fahad Bugti, nephew of the Baloch nationalist leader Nawab Akbar Bugti, and Mir Ali Haider Bugti, his maternal nephew. Each side accused the other of initiating the attack. CCTV footage revealed that Fahad Bugti, accompanied by gunmen, exited his home in two luxury vehicles. Concurrently, Ali Haider Bugti, with his gunmen and sons in a single vehicle, collided with Fahad’s vehicle, triggering the heavy gun battle.

Police Surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed confirmed that the post-mortem examinations indicated multiple firearm injuries on the deceased.

In response to the incident, Washne Bugti, grandson of Nawab Akbar Bugti and nephew of Fahad Bugti, appealed to Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah to ensure a fair investigation. He requested that the Inspector General (IG) of Police conduct a thorough and impartial inquiry into the matter.
