Supreme Court Issues Notices to Federation and FIA in Qasim Suri Case, Adjourns Hearing Indefinitely

The Supreme Court of Pakistan, under the leadership of Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa, has taken significant steps in the case involving former Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Qasim Suri. A 4-member bench of the court issued notices to the Federation and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), seeking comprehensive details related to Qasim Suri's assets and his international travel history.

The court session was convened to hear an appeal challenging the Election Tribunal's decision to disqualify Qasim Suri. Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct of proceedings, particularly noting the absence of proper representation from Qasim Suri's legal team. Naeem Bukhari, representing Qasim Suri, informed the court that he had been unable to contact his client and expressed his intention to withdraw from the case.

Chief Justice Isa admonished Bukhari, stressing the importance of diligent representation and cautioning against using the Supreme Court's platform improperly. Despite efforts made by the court to reach out to Qasim Suri, neither the former deputy speaker nor his legal representatives provided any response during the hearing.

Consequently, the Supreme Court decided to adjourn the proceedings indefinitely. In a written order issued after the hearing, Chief Justice Isa directed the Balochistan government to furnish a detailed report on Qasim Suri's property holdings. Additionally, the federal government and FIA were tasked with explaining how Qasim Suri had traveled abroad despite the ongoing legal proceedings.
