Trump Blames Advisors for Iran Conflict, Warns of Severe Retaliation

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday blamed key advisors, including negotiator Steve Witkoff, his son-in-law Jared Kushner, and Defense Secretary Pat Hegseth, for the rapid escalation leading to US strikes on Iran. Speaking at a press conference in Florida, Trump said the situation “reached the point of no return very quickly,” and that discussions with his advisors led him to believe Iran was preparing an imminent attack on the United States.

Trump claimed that if the US had not acted first, Iran would have attacked within a week. He cited military successes, stating that 51 Iranian naval vessels have been destroyed, drone attacks by Iran have decreased by 83%, and Iranian drone manufacturing is now being targeted. He added that the US has developed inexpensive interceptors to counter Iranian drones and is “far ahead of the initial timeline.”

Regarding energy security, Trump said that if Iran disrupts oil supplies, the US would strike decisively. He noted the US would lift some oil-related sanctions to stabilize prices and reaffirmed that the US Navy would protect shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. He also mentioned having a “good conversation” with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

On the conflict timeline, Trump said the Iran war is expected to end soon but avoided confirming whether a war would erupt this week. He confirmed an investigation is underway into the attack on a girls’ school in Iran and added, “Iran can be left here, but we are going to go further.”

Trump issued a stark warning to Tehran: if Iran closes the Strait of Hormuz, it will face “death, fire, and fury” and will be dealt with “20 times more severely.”

On diplomatic prospects, he stated that talks with Iran might be possible depending on conditions, but currently sees no pressing need to engage in dialogue. Regarding the election of Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Trump expressed skepticism, saying he does not believe “they can live in peace.”

Trump’s remarks come amid ongoing US-Israeli operations in the region and escalating tensions following Iranian retaliation for strikes on its territory.
