POLITICS & POLICY MAKING

US President Donald Trump lauded the intelligence and talents of the Pakistani people, emphasizing their capacity to create remarkable innovations. Trump expressed surprise at the low trade volume between the US and Pakistan despite historically cordial ties, signaling a strong interest in expanding economic relations.
"Pakistanis are intelligent people; they make amazing things," Trump remarked. He underscored the importance of trade discussions already underway, noting Pakistan's eagerness to deepen trade ties with the United States.
Trump also highlighted the success of the ceasefire between the nuclear-armed neighbors Pakistan and India, which he called a significant achievement. He said tensions had escalated dangerously close to the brink of nuclear war before American diplomatic efforts helped negotiate a ceasefire.
The US President stressed that trade negotiations are a vital tool to promote peace and stability in the region. "We are using trade as a means to establish peace," he stated, referring to talks encouraging commerce between Pakistan and India.
However, Trump criticized India for imposing some of the highest tariffs globally, making business challenging. He noted recent positive developments, including India’s readiness to eliminate tariffs on US goods completely, a move he believes will enhance trade relations.
This interview reiterates the US administration’s commitment to fostering better economic and diplomatic ties with South Asia, focusing on peaceful dialogue and mutual prosperity.
