POLITICS & POLICY MAKING
WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump signaled on Wednesday that the current military campaign against Iran could be nearing its final stages, telling reporters to brace for an "amazing two days" ahead. The optimistic remarks come as the U.S. military fully implements a maritime blockade, with American warships successfully turning back all vessels attempting to depart Iranian docks.
The conflict, which began on February 28 with a joint U.S.-Israeli offensive dubbed "Operation Epic Fury," has significantly disrupted global trade. However, the President’s hopeful tone provided a much-needed boost to financial markets, sending global stocks toward record highs.
Despite the breakdown of high-stakes talks in Islamabad last Sunday, Vice President JD Vance expressed a positive outlook on the current diplomatic standing. Vance, who spearheaded the U.S. delegation alongside Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, noted that while an immediate deal to halt the war was not reached, the framework for future discussions remains intact.
The war has had a ripple effect across the region, triggering Iranian retaliatory strikes on Gulf neighbors and intensifying the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon. Following a brief dip in prices earlier this week, oil recovered to roughly $96 per barrel on Wednesday after U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that its naval blockade has effectively brought Iran’s seaborne commerce to a total standstill.
