CRIME

A horrific incident has shaken the residents of Punjab’s Hafizabad district as two seven-year-old boys who had gone missing earlier this week were found dead in a neighbour's house, with initial medical reports confirming signs of physical violence and sexual abuse.
The tragedy came to light through a first information report (FIR) filed by the father of one of the victims, a copy of which has been seen by Dawn.com. According to the complaint, the father had left for work early on Wednesday morning and was informed about his son’s disappearance shortly thereafter.
“When I returned from work at 9 or 10pm, I could not find my son. We went to the house of a neighbour and found my son’s shoe there,” the father said in the FIR.
The neighbour’s grandson was also reported missing, and together with other local residents, the families searched through the night, making announcements from mosques in a desperate attempt to locate the children.
On Thursday morning, the families received information that the boys were last seen with three named and two unidentified individuals. Upon reaching the suspects’ house, the complainant said:
“When we asked them to open the door, they scattered. Inside the house, we discovered a foul smell and found the bodies of both boys stuffed in a metal box. Their bodies bore signs of violence.”
Police arrived at the scene and registered a case under Sections 148, 149, 302, and 356 of the Pakistan Penal Code, covering charges of murder, assault, rioting, and criminal force.
🏥 Medical Report Confirms Abuse
Dr. Rizwan, Medical Superintendent at the District Headquarters Hospital Hafizabad, confirmed to the media that both victims had suffered brutal physical assault and sexual abuse.
“The postmortem report clearly shows signs of violence and abuse on the boys’ bodies and sensitive organs. Forensic samples have been collected, and a detailed report will be available tomorrow,” said Dr. Rizwan.
📊 Child Abuse in Pakistan: A Grim Picture
This case is yet another disturbing addition to the growing number of child abuse cases in Pakistan. According to the NGO Sahil, 3,364 child abuse cases were reported across the country in 2024 alone.
Their annual report Cruel Numbers 2024—based on data from 81 national and regional newspapers—revealed that nine children are abused daily. Of the total victims, 1,791 were girls (53%) and 1,573 were boys (47%).
📢 Public Outcry and Demand for Justice
The brutal nature of this incident has sparked public outrage, with calls for the immediate arrest and punishment of the culprits. Rights activists and citizens have taken to social media demanding swift justice and stricter laws to prevent such heinous crimes against children.
